Happy New Year, we are one week in to 2018.
How did the first week of 2018 go for you? Are you off to a good start with your New Year resolutions, whatever they may be?
Or, are you like me and have said “no” to the resolutions but instead are committing to making strategic goals to see specific results. All with grace.
In 2018 I’m giving myself more grace.
As I set more goals and put in more work to achieve them, I will also need more grace for when I fall short, for the trial and error, for the failures along the way.
I recently felt convicted as I watched Chrystal Evans Hurst Facebook Live message as she talked about putting a puzzle together “piece by piece.” She was explaining how we approach our goals, our vision, our dreams, focused on the big picture, trying to get it all “right now”; when actually it take one step at a time.
There is a lot on my list of goals for 2018.
I’m ready to go after my dreams more aggressively than ever after the hard year I had last year, but I was reminded listening to Crystal to slow down, and to recognize this is a journey, a life journey; and I don’t have to do it all “right now.” I just have to take it one piece, one step at a time.
Later in the week, I was turned on to Patrice Washington’s podcast, Redefining Wealth, and was convicted yet again.
Patrice dropped several gems but one that has been on repeat in my mind since is that we just have to take the “next best step.”
Guilty here of feeling stuck when I don’t have all the answers. When things aren’t setup just right with all the elements, when the timing isn’t perfect, I feel stuck.
Guilty here of seeing my big vision and trying to do it all, have it all, at once, right away. Then I feel all over the place, deterred, and in the end not getting anywhere at all.
I know I’m not alone because I see it on social media year after year when people are sharing their resolutions and goals, and we all see who seem to be all “talk”, no “action” and no “results”.
This is not about busyness, this is about real action that yields real results.
That’s been me too. Starting, not staying consistent, sitting on my dreams, being thrown off course by changing circumstances, etc.
2018 I’m challenging myself and you, to stay the course, embrace the journey and take it piece by piece, step by step.
You know the saying; “Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
All 2018, whatever our goals are, and the vision we have, let us journey together.
I’ll be cheering you on.
